Szaúd-Arábiáról mint turisztikai desztinációról, nemsokat hallottunk eddig. A hazai élménykeresők 2022. év vége felé figyelhettek fel jobban az országra, amikor a WizzAir elindította járatait. Szaúd-Arábiában 2019-ig elsősorban a vallási turizmus volt a kiemelkedő szegmens. Mohamed bin Szalmán koronaherceg 2017-ben bejelentette, hogy az ország megnyitja kapuit a hagyományos belföldi és a nemzetközi szabadidős turizmus előtt, melyet a Vision 2030 nevű átfogó társadalmi, gazdasági reformprogram részeként vezettek be. A programnak köszönhetően hatalmas beruházások, fejlesztések indultak el az országban. Jelen tanulmány célja a Szaúd-Arábia robbanásszerű, látványos turisztikai fejlesztésével kapcsolatos nemzetközi szakirodalom és kutatás feldolgozása, a jelenleg zajló fejlesztések ismertetése és a turizmusra vonatkozó alapvető következtetések levonása.
