The rapid industrialization and population growth in India have led to an unprecedented surge in energy demand, prompting a critical examination of sustainable energy sources. The present study delves into the current status and prospects of renewable energy in India, exploring its pivotal role in fostering sustainable development. The study encompasses an analysis of the current renewable energy landscape, government initiatives, challenges faced, and potential solutions. India has made significant strides in the deployment of renewable energy technologies, with a notable increase in solar and wind energy capacity. Government-led initiatives, such as the National Solar Mission and Wind Energy Mission, have played a pivotal role in promoting clean energy adoption. Despite these advancements, challenges like intermittency, grid integration issues, and financial barriers persist. The future perspectives of renewable energy in India are promising, driven by technological advancements, decreasing costs of renewable technologies, and a growing emphasis on sustainability. The adoption of energy storage solutions, smart grids, and digital technologies is poised to address the intermittency issues associated with renewables, enhancing their reliability and contribution to the energy mix.
