The Piast crown of Władysław the Short
Crowned King of Poland in January 1320, Władysław the Short brought about the consolidation of the royal dignity in Poland. In the article the author seeks to explain the lengthy nature
of the formation of royal power in Piast Poland, a process that began in the year 1000 with
the symbolic elevation of the dignity of Bolesław Chrobry by Emperor Otto III. The author’s
analysis of the phenomenon is carried out in comparison with the history of the Kingdom
of Bohemia and in critical reference to the older literature on the subject.
