Attic Grave Stele: Woman Dying in Childbirth
View through Harvard Museums
Department of Ancient and Byzantine Art & Numismatics
Giovacchino Ferroni [1] Rome (by 1905-1905) sold [2]; to Edward Waldo Forbes (March 1905-June 1905) gift; to Fogg Art Museum 1905.
[1] Sometimes also referred to as Gioacchino Ferroni or Joachim Ferroni; Ferroni was an Italian dealer and collector based first in Florence then in Rome (life dates: 1854-1909).
[2] A receipt from Ferroni dated 19 March 1905 is in the curatorial object file.
Note: This stele was formerly thought to have been in the Nani di San Trovaso family collection (Venice) also known as the Museo Nani; however this collection attribution remains unsubstantiated and is likely a misunderstanding.
