Exploration of Vedic Yajña in the Śrīmad Bhāgavata Mahāpurāṇa

View through CrossRef
The concept of Vedic yajña in the Śrīmad Bhāgavata Mahāpurāṇa transcends its conventional understanding as a mere ritualistic sacrifice and is redefined as a profound spiritual act of devotion, wisdom, and self-surrender. While traditional yajñas involve offerings into the sacred fire to maintain cosmic harmony, the Śrīmad Bhāgavata Mahāpurāṇa elevates this practice by emphasizing inner sacrifice-the renunciation of ego, desires, and attachment. It teaches that the highest yajña is the offering of one's thoughts, words, and actions in pure devotion to the Supreme, particularly through bhakti (loving devotion). This Purāṇa underscores that even a fraction of spiritual knowledge surpasses the benefits of external austerities, pilgrimages, and charitable acts, guiding seekers toward liberation (moṣha).  The researcher uses Yugarishi Shriram Sharma's theory of Yajña for the analysis of the text. By transforming yajña from an external ritual into an internal spiritual process, the Śrīmad Bhāgavata Mahāpurāṇa reveals its deeper purpose: aligning human consciousness with divine will and attaining ultimate transcendence. The conclusion drawn from this investigation is that the exploration of Vedic Yajña in the Śrīmad Bhāgavata Mahāpurāṇa reveals its transformation from ritualistic sacrifice to a path of devotion (bhakti), emphasizing inner purity, selfless action, and harmony with the divine.
