SEG-HAGI-IPA partners to present Jakarta 2006

The Jakarta 2006 International Geosciences Conference and Exhibition, held 14–16 August 2006, was a success by all standards! This conference was historic in that 10 years had elapsed since the last SEG-HAGI conference was held in 1996. (HAGI is the Indonesian Society of Geophysicists.) This 10-year gap was not for lack of trying. Planning for meetings in 2002 and 2003 was disrupted by political events. Thus, the organizers were delighted that this conference came off without a hitch! Leon Thomsen, then SEG president-elect, attended the entire duration of the conference, and led a four-person SEG delegation. SEG's participation was critical in mustering international support and attendance, and it was invaluable to be able to promote the conference via TLE, the SEG Web site, and on the exhibition floor during SEG's 2005 Annual Meeting in Houston. SEG further supported the conference with its very experienced meetings staff, and by the presence of Bill Dragoset on the organizing committee.
