This epistolary tribute to Chicana theorist and writer Gloria E. Anzaldúa discusses the impact of her work on American studies, in particular her theories on the borderlands, identity politics, and language. On May 15, 2004, Anzaldúa died in her home in Santa Cruz, California of diabetes-related complications. She was buried in Hargill, Texas. Having almost completed her dissertation at the time of her death, Anzaldúa was awarded a posthumous Ph.D. in Literature from the University of California at Santa Cruz in June 2004. She would have been 62 years old this September.
