1916.9.179 Name and identification of character An unfinished mask representing a prince, kumaraya (Sin.). Context The shape of the mask indicates that it could be a Kolam mask. The mask cannot have been used in any performance, as it has not been painted. Some carvers are in the habit of turning out masks en gross to satisfy the merchants. Material Wood, vel-kaduru (Sin.) (Nux vomica). Iconography The headgear has three spires. The face has a smooth texture. It has not been painted. A mask remains flat and static until paint is applied.
