The shape of the mask indicates that it could be a Kolam mask. The mask cannot have been used in any performance, as it has not been painted. Some carvers are in the habit of turning out masks en gross to satisfy the merchants.
Material
Wood, vel-kaduru (Sin.) (Nux vomica).
Iconography
The headgear has three spires. The face has a smooth texture. It has not been painted. A mask remains flat and static until paint is applied. The paint medium has a subtle effect when the light of the flaming torches enhances it during a performance.
