Ridicule and polemic are the defining features of debunking, though sociologists also seek to employ debunking in a more scientific way. This entry examines the American milieu that invented debunking, examines the debunking articulation of the American sociologist Peter Berger, and briefly mentions some criticisms of the debunking mode.
