Four basic types of predicative possession

Abstract
In the preceding chapter we have delineated the boundaries of our inquiry by defining a cross-linguistically applicable domain of predicative (alienable) possession. On the basis of this definition we can now proceed to build a data base, which comprises the relevant linguistic material from the languages in the sample. Once this task has been completed (and we will assume here that it has) our next step is to construct a typology of predicative possession, on the basis of observable similarities and differences among the constructions included in the cross-linguistic database.
