View through CrossRef
Abstract. This study aims to analyze the relationship between Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) and social media addiction, and to determine whether self-control has a role as a mediating variable in that relationship in emerging adulthood in Bandung City. A quantitative approach with Path Analysis was used in this study. Participants numbered 282 people aged 18–25 years who are active social media users. The instruments used were the Indonesian version of the ON-FoMO Scale, the Indonesian adaptation of the Bergen Social Media Addiction Scale (BSMAS), and the Indonesian version of the 10-item Self-Control Scale. The results show that FoMO has a positive and significant effect on social media addiction (β=.282, p<.001). Self-control was found to play a significant role as a partial mediator in the relationship between FoMO and social media addiction indirect effect =(.099). These findings confirm that FoMO is an important factor that triggers social media addiction, and the mediating mechanism through self-control explains part of that relationship.
