Asymmetric Aldol Reactions in the Total Syntheses of Natural Products

The use of aldol reactions is widespread in natural product syntheses. In this chapter, the development of asymmetric aldol reactions and the application to the syntheses of natural products are discussed. Manipulation of the aldol adduct, as important in the natural product synthesis as the aldol reaction itself, is also revealed.
