Sörárpától a tájökológiai vizuális planációig – Barczi Attila munkássága

This short review article is a tribute to the work of Attila Barczi. The works registered in the Hungarian Scientific Bibliography Database (www.mtmt.hu) provided the basis for the presentation of Attila Barczi's activities, his scientific and educational publications will also be discussed, from the first steps to the last recorded publications. The reader can see what subject areas he has involved in his work, starting with the White Cliff in Kesztölc, which is a recurring motif among publications and dissertations as well. Attila's favorite geographical region was around Lake Balaton, and he compiled his doctoral dissertation from his detailed and thorough research on the Tihany Peninsula. The Tihany Peninsula has always remained one of the favorite areas, so the famulus of the school it built, so I myself designed one of my sample areas here; but Viktor Grónás, who was one of his first students, also wrote his doctoral dissertation from surveys here. Like many professionals who “stucked” in the science for the rest of their lives, Attila often studied details of the natural environment, especially at the beginning of his career, and then, over time, with a broader perspective and in-depth knowledge of applied and practical topics and examined the landscape, sustainability, and other landscape contexts with a holistic view. In addition to the territorial aspect, his favorite research topic was related to kurgans, and his school-founder work is also known to many from Hungary and abroad. Throughout his life, he was proud and permeated in his daily life that he considered himself a member of the Stefanovits School and taught and applied the trend represented by the professor in both teaching and fieldwork and in his publishing activities. We should also mention that he was also an excellent photographer, whose photographs appear in the articles and book chapters he makes, and in other publications. He considered the dissemination activity to be extremely important. In addition, he also dealt with the study of landscape change, soil protection, soil moisture, soil compaction, soil-plant relations, rocks, minerals, geography and the mysteries of brandy making. His work is outstanding, interesting, colorful and often fills a gap. Since March 2020, it has left an irreplaceable space in Hungarian scientific life and the everyday education of our university. With the help of his publications, it will be forever memorable even for those who have not known him.
