Evangelicalism expands

View through CrossRef
Abstract ‘Evangelicalism expands’ examines the expansion of evangelicalism in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. It was the entrepreneurial Charles Grandison Finney who carried the bulk of evangelicalism with him: not only mass evangelists, but the twentieth-century church growth movement, the booming megachurches, and other approaches to evangelism based on the social science of missiology. Revivals would continue to break out regionally over the nineteenth and twentieth centuries in Greater Britain and America—and well beyond. It is worth also considering the coming of the denominational mission societies and “faith missions” and Evangelicals’ understanding of gender roles. Pentecostalism emerged in a major American city and soon went worldwide.
