Evangelicalism defined

View through CrossRef
Abstract ‘Evangelicalism explained’ defines evangelicalism. It was not until the Protestant Reformation that “evangelical” as a noun came into wide use to denote the genuine Christians (the Protestants) in contrast to the Roman Catholics. The chapter looks at evangelicalism as denoting the true faith, as a movement, and as a style. One might see Christianity in the modern era occurring in three main styles: a conscientious maintenance of the past (conservatism), a determined freedom toward the present and future (liberalism), and a way between those two. There are a number of key adjectives that define evangelicalism: Trinitarian, Biblicist, Conversionist, Missional, Populist, and Pragmatic.
