No Palácio presidencial do Catete pode-se ler, numa artística placa de bronze, contendo a efígie de Pio XII, a seguinte inscrição: “O Cardeal Eugênio Pacelli, Legado Pontifício e depois Papa Pio XII, foi hóspede do Governo Brasileiro e ocupou estes aposentos do Palácio do Catete nos dias 20 e 21-X-1934”. Indelével ficou na História do Brasil a passagem augusta do Cardeal Secretário de Estado que, do alto do Corcovado, à sombra do majestoso monumento a Cristo Redentor, pronunciou, em nome do Santo Padre Pio XI, breve e afetuosa alocução ao povo brasileiro, na suave língua de Camões.
