Homer's Iliad and John Ford's The Searchers

Die homerischen Epen stellen der westlichen Literatur sowie spàteren visuellen Erzahlungsar- ten die bedeutendsten Archetypen heroischer Geschichten zur Verfiigung, einschliesslich derer, die zu anderen Zeiten und in anderen Kulturkreisen angesiedelt sind. Der hier vorge- legte Beitrag untersucht Parallelen zur «Mas» in John Fords klassischem Westemfilm «The Searchers» (deutscher Titel : «Der schwarze Falke») aus dem Jahre 1956. Sowohl das antike Epos als auch Fords Film betonen den zwiespaltigen Charakter ihrer Hauptgestalt und dessen Einsamkeit und Isolierung. Der Beitrag befasst sich speziell mit dem Schluss des Films, der sich als thematisch eng verwandt mit dem 24. Gesang der «Mas» erweist.
