Claudius Quintillus (Marcus Aurelius Claudius Quintillus Augustus)

View through CrossRef
Abstract Perhaps born ca. 220 ce , of Danubian origin, Claudius Quintillus ( PLRE I 579; PIR 2 A 1480) was Roman emperor for two or three months in the summer of 270. His acceptance of the throne, mainly on the basis of being the younger brother of his predecessor Claudius II, displayed the problems of hereditary succession when it did not produce the most capable candidate at a time when the empire faced critical economic and military problems.
