Unknown woman

It is a free copy according to the picture from the gallery at Palazzo Barberini in Rome, which was attributed until the beginning of 20. Century of Guido Rani, which was mistaken in the 19th century, that it represents the young murderer Beatrice Cenci. It came from a well-known Roman noble family and gave r. 1598 to assassinate his eccentric and cruel father Francesco Cenci. When the hired murderers revealed her, she and her companions were ordered by Pope Clement VIII. executed in 1599. After her death, the rumor spread that she had a strong reason for the murder because her father allegedly abused her. It was later found that Francesco Cenci’s accusation of bloodthirsty was not justified. Reproductions of the portrait were from the end 18th and throughout 19th century very popular.
