Seleukos II Kallinikos (Seleucus II Callinicus)

AbstractSeleukos II Kallinikos ruled the Seleucid Empire from 246 to 225. During his reign, the realm experienced hard times. In the Third Syrian War, Ptolemy III campaigned as far as Babylon and proclaimed the conquest of the whole empire. After the peace agreement with Ptolemy, Seleukos’ brother Antiochos Hierax proclaimed himself king in Asia Minor. As a consequence of this dynastic strife, the Eastern satrapies gained local autonomy.
