Abstract Seleukos IV Philopator (as is his byname in OGIS 247) was the second son of Antiochos III Megas and Laodike, daughter of Mithradates of Pontos, and was born after 220 BCE . In 196, his father gave him the task to rebuild the city of Lysimacheia, located on the Thracian Chersonese, which was supposed to become the future residence of the European part of the Seleucid empire (Polyb. 18.51.8; Livy 35.15.5).
