Helena Modrzejewska i Jan Królikowski
View through CrossRef
The article describes the relationship between two actors who performed together on the stages of the Warsaw Theaters in Warsaw: Helena Modjeska and Jan Królikowski, especially in 1868-69, that is, during Modjeska’s stay in Warsaw for her first guest performances. In total, they appeared together in twenty- five plays in Warsaw in 1868-82. Modjeska and Królikowski are the brightest theater stars of their time. How did their artistic encounters go? How did the audience perceive their joint performances? What could they offer each other? The article briefly discusses questions of this kind, paying particular attention to the type of roles they created and the reactions of critics. There are some common features of these two actors: thorough work on each character performed, refining roles to the smallest detail, and mastery of acting, appreciated by both the audience and critics. The question remains why two masters of acting occupy such different places in the memory of posterity.
