If there is an error even, even if there is an error… Word order variation from a historical linguistic perspective The present paper focuses on one type of concessive conditional clause in Hungarian (ha ... is ’if ... also’). It explores when the word order of the particle is ’too’ began to change in this context and where this process stands today. Data are drawn from corpora representing Middle, Early Modern, and Modern Hungarian. In negative clauses, the innovative variant appears to be dominant, even in formal texts in Modern Hungarian. In contrast, assertive clauses in formal texts seem to favour the conservative pattern. Keywords: concessive conditionals, additive particle, word order change
