South-west aspect of the Church of St Augustine, Headon
View through Europeana Collections
St Augustine's is the largest of Hedon's three
medieval parish churches. It was built between the early 13th and
14th centuries when Hedon was an important port on the River
Humber. At 165-feet long, with a 129-feet high tower, it is also
one of the largest parish churches in Yorkshire's East Riding. The
building is mainly in the Early English style, although the large
east window and the crossing tower probably date from the 15th
century.
