Pop Art and‘Late Style’: A Study of Andy Warhol’s Late Paintings WANG Fangfeifei (Central Academy of Fine Arts,Beijing 100105,China) Abstract:

View through CrossRef
Andy Warhol' s artistic shift in the late 1970s marked a significant departure from his traditional Pop Art. During this period, Warhol created the “Oxidation” and “Shadows” series, which, despite not receiving due attention at the time, not only influenced the art world of the 1980s but continue to inspire contemporary art practices today. This paper focuses on Andy Warhol' s late painting practices (1978-1987) , exploring how to interpret his later works in his artistic career. Given the relative lack of academic attention to Warhol' s late works, this study aims to introduce the concept of “Late Style” to provide a deeper understanding of Warhol' s artistic pursuits in his later years. It seeks to demonstrate that these works not only reflect the artist' s questioning of mainstream societal values but also pose a profound challenge to the redefinition of "style" in art history.
