Porträt Stephan Wolters (1645-1718)
View through Europeana Collections
Portrait of Stephan Wolters. The pastor working in Gdansk is shown here as a chest pattern to the right. His gaze is directed towards the viewer. He seems to wear wig. In addition, his clothes consist of the costume of a clergyman: dark robe, buffalo and pileolus. The effigy is framed oval. The version is slightly decorated below and a longer text appears on Latin.
Stephan Wolters was born in Hamburg and worked as a pastor and preacher in Gdansk, where he died.
The etcher Pieter Stevens van Gunst (1659-1724), who worked in Amsterdam, produced the engraving. He was guided by a portrait of the Polish painter Andreas Stech (1635-1697).
