Opera as Anthropology. Antropologists in Lyrical Settings, de Vlado Kotnik

La ópera es un tema nuevo y «exótico» en la antropología, afirma Vlado Kotnik. Cuando esta ha estudiado la música y las artes, se ha ocupado de las expresiones artísticas de los pueblos no occidentales o del folclore tradicional popular. La ópera, un producto clasificado dentro de la alta cultura europea, no ha sido considerada susceptible de análisis antropológico hasta bien mediado el siglo XX, y únicamente por unos pocos antropólogos guiados principalmente por motivaciones personales. El autor revisa los trabajos de Claude Lévi-Strauss, Michel Leiris, William O. Beeman, Denis Laborde, Paul Atkinson y Philippe-Joseph Salazar, para sostener que la ópera puede ser objeto de estudio antropológico, de investigación etnográfica, de análisis cultural y de reflexión histórica.
