Bird Report - Sarawak 1995

This report has been compiled from observations over the year 1995 made during my research studies on the avian diversity of Sarawak with the Institute of Biodiversity and Environmental Conservation, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak. Dr Stephen Blaber, a fellow member of the Royal Australasian Ornithologists Union has provided valuable records of species encountered during his visits to Sarawak: his records are indicated (SB). A total of 533 species are listed for Sarawak: 192 species are classified common or abundant, of which 27 are common to specific localities only. Of the total species population, migrants, including visitors and vagrants total 162. Species found in Sarawak, which are endemic to the island of Borneo total 31. Twenty-four species are classified endangered in the 1990 lUCN Red list of threatened animals, and a further 96 species are classified rare in Sarawak.
