BIOGRAPHIES OF L.N. TOLSTOY IN HISTORICAL DYNAMICS

View through CrossRef
The subject of the research in the article is the reception of the figure and fate of Leo Tolstoy in biographies written in the period from 1894 to 2020, as well as its historical and cultural dynamics. The authors identify strategies for studying the life of Leo Tolstoy by biographers of different historical periods, which allows us to analyze and evaluate the dynamics of perception of the writer's figure in the XIX-XXI centuries. The reception of the figure of Leo Tolstoy in different historical periods is heterogeneous: the interpretation of the writer's image is influenced not only by the personal preferences of biographers, their goals and objectives, but also by the value orientations set by time. The historical epoch also influences the author's strategies for creating the image of Leo Tolstoy. Biographies of Leo Tolstoy written by different authors are devided into three groups: biographies created by contemporaries of Leo Tolstoy; biographies written by authors of the Soviet period; biographies of the post-Soviet period. Such division is due to a change in the historical context that affects the reception and interpretation of the image of the hero of the biography.
