A Decade of Protective Clothing Standards Development

ASTM Committee F23 on protective clothing will complete a decade of standards development activities this year. Since its original formation as an official ASTM committee in 1977, it has grown in size from 36 to 170 members, produced three standard methods, held one successful international symposium on protective clothing, and published one Special Technical Publication. Charged with a responsibility to develop standard test methods and standard terminology, classifications, and performance specifications for clothing used to protect against occupational hazards, Committee F23 has become the worldwide focal point of protective clothing standards development. This presentation reviews the history and development of Committee F23, looking at highlights of its past, present and future activities.
