The Ava Convention
View through CrossRef
For over a century (what I call) the “Ava Convention” had contended that the Kingdom of Ava was a new polity led and ruled by the Shan, and the Ava period, a tumultuous one of decentralism and fragmentation. Although I have demonstrated elsewhere that the basis for the convention is erroneous, some reiteration, new information, and a closer scrutiny more directly related to the present study, are warranted. The most serious problem of the “Ava Convention” is that not a shred of original evidence exists to support it, while the conceptual, methodological, and analytical basis for it is also seriously flawed. This chapter deconstructs the convention and offers a new approach to the study and understanding of Ava.
Title: The Ava Convention
