Fictional Forms in William Hale White's Autobiography of Mark Rutherford and Mark Rutherford's Deliverance

William Hale White's Autobiography of Mark Rutherford and Mark Rutherford's Deliverance are usually read as self-expressive and literally autobiographical. Although they use autobiographical materials, along with much that is purposefully invented, they assume two different, ordinary forms of narrative fiction. The Autobiography is an imitation of an action; Deliverance an apologue.
