Gerhard Roths späte Romane

View through CrossRef
Readers are often mystified by the late work of Gerhard Roth, the Austrian author who died in 2022. Hans-Bernd Bunte’s book on Roth’s last five novels undertakes a detailed search for interpretations which complement the common perception of Roth. Known to be a critical observer of reality, Roth turns out to be a lifelong seeker who explored myths of identity and a ‘second world’ hidden behind the visible one. The Venice experience in his novels becomes the key to unearthing surprising insights. Moreover, Roth’s characters are taken into the spheres between reality and vision and life and death by encountering various works of art.
