The Ruby-Hued Elixir: Exploring the Preparation and Standardization of Rasamanikya

View through CrossRef
Abstract Background: Ayurveda, an ancient medicinal system, has utilized metals and minerals in internal medicine since ancient times. One such formulation, Rasamanikya, is renowned for its efficacy in treating various diseases. This study explores the preparation and standardization of Rasamanikya using the traditional Abhraka patra method with two purification media used for Haratala Shodhana:Churnodaka and Kushmanda Swarasa. The objective is to provide insights into contemporary practices and evaluate the differences in elemental compositions between Rasamanikya A and Rasamanikya B. Materials and Methods: The study comprised two phases: A pharmaceutical study for Rasamanikya preparation and an analytical study during the process. Raw materials were sourced from genuine local origins and authenticated. Materials and Methods: The study comprised two phases: a pharmaceutical study for Rasamanikya preparation and an analytical study during the process. Raw materials were sourced from genuine local origins and authenticated. The Shodhana process involved Swedana of Haratala using Churnodaka and Kushmanda Swarasa as media. Rasamanikya was prepared using the aforementioned two samples of Shodhit Haratala with Abhraka patra method. The final products in each step were characterized using physicochemical and quantitative analysis. Results: During Churnodaka Shodhana of Haratala, the pH of media decreased from 12 to 9.3, while during Kushmanda Swarasa Shodhana of Haratala, it increased from 5.2 to 6.43. Both methods successfully purified Haratala, as there is a significant difference seen analytically after Shodhana, reducing arsenic and sulfur percentages as well as based on characteristics of purified Haratala. Rasamanikya A showed a higher loss in weight than Rasamanikya B. Analytical studies revealed elemental composition differences between the two preparations. Conclusion: This study sheds light on the traditional preparation and standardization of Rasamanikya using the Abhraka patra method with two purification media. The pharmaceutical and analytical studies demonstrated the effectiveness of the Shodhana process in purifying Haratala, with significant differences observed in elemental compositions between Rasamanikya A and Rasamanikya B. These findings contribute valuable insights into contemporary practices within Ayurveda, emphasizing the importance of precise methodologies for the formulation of medicinal compounds.
