ELIXIR Portugal | BioData.pt , is strongly committed to ELIXIR’s mission, particularly with respect to the development and adoption of best practices in data management and open science. This communication unravels the latest achievements in this topic: The “Ready for BioData Management?” capacity building program for the life sciences  that after having trained more than 300 researchers building data management plans,  has recently launched the first training program for data stewards in Portugal, and the experience of the first Data Steward hired in Portugal,  in designing and implementing an institutional research data management strategy; The integration of data from a non-model tree (Q. suber), as a use-case to adapt and integrate plant services and tools through ELIXIR service bundles, within the implementation study “Increasing Plant data findability and reuse beyond ELIXIR”;  The implementation feedback of ELIXIR Portugal as an early adopter of the LocalEGA and Beacon v2 systems, developed within ELIXIR programs, and aligned with national and international initiatives, like the Portuguese Initiative of Genomics Medicine and the Beyond One Million Genomes, respectively.
