Abstract
Gnaeus Pompeius Strabo was a Roman general and consul of the Roman Republic (89
bce
). He is principally known for his military successes during the Roman‐Allied war, for his activity (or, rather, the lack of it) during Sulla's March on Rome, and for his role in the fight against L. Cornelius Cinna and C. Marius, in which conflict he was killed. He was the father of Cn. Pompeius Magnus, better known as Pompey the Great.
