This chapter examines the place of kinship in the law of Drakon on homicide and in Solon’s laws, examples of legislation as a response to crisis situations. The implications of Solon’s measures to regulate class relations are explored in detail, especially the removal of the horoi and subsequent impact on the hektemoroi, as well as laws governing the oikos.
