Empiema subdural devido a sinusopatias

O empiema subdural pode resultar de disseminação de uma infecção localizada nos seios paranasais, otite média, e ocasionalmente, foco séptico a distância. A causa mais comum de empiema subdural é a sinusite. Os autores apresentam 11 casos de empiema subdural decorrente de sinusopatias, discutem sua via de disseminação, quadro clínico, microorganismos mais freqüentes, meios diagnósticos, tratamento e prognóstico. Chamam ainda a atenção para a importância do tratamento adequado das sinusopatias, visto poderem ocasionar complicações intracranianas potencialmente fatais.
