Chemical Equilibrium at R. D. Morrow, Sr. Generating Plant

Abstract
This paper recounts the diagnostic efforts undertaken at R. D. Morrow, Sr. Generating Station, and details the 60 days of chemical equilibrium testing that confirmed the corrective measures taken to fight scale formation. The testing program produced a unique set of meaningful and reliable data, because throughout the 60 days of testing, the flue gas flow through the absorbers was held constant.
In order to maintain a reliable FGD system, consideration must be given to chemical-process parameters of the FGD system. The data provided by the equilibrium testing will increase the data base that operators and engineers need to understand the relationships between the major ionic species in FGD systems, and their effect on system reliability.
