Monthly Infographics Report: June 2023

A total of 1541 violent incidents occurred in June 2023 which is 17.5% less than the previous month. The incidents are mostly triggered by politics, access to resources, and other socio-economic factors. More than 260 deaths and 1165 injuries have been recorded from these incidents. Around 2004 people were arrested in June connected to violent incidents. Some 118 properties have been destroyed in the same time. The highest number of violent incidents have been recorded as clashes and attacks (437). Some 343 incidents of political violence and 18 incidents of electoral violence were also recorded at the same time and 22 deaths were directly triggered by politics. Geographically, Dhaka (306) scores the highest number of violence followed by Chittagong (295), Rajshahi (240), and Khulna (212). Among 215 protests in Bangladesh, 147 protests were triggered by politics. 20.96% of protests were done by BNP while Awami League organized 15.57% of protests in June. While some 38.75% of political violence contributed by Bangladesh Awami League & affiliates, similarly, 10.83% contributed by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). Intra-party violence within the Awami League maintains a significant surge in June 2023 as well. Whereas 56% incidents were rural, 34% violence incidents took place in urban areas in June. During the month of June, Bangladesh experienced a significant increase in incidents of student violence, with a total of 146 cases reported across different regions. A notable finding was that approximately 56% of political violence incidents were directly linked to student or campus-related conflicts within the country.
