Caruso St John Architects – Spazio per l’organo nella Cattedrale di Canterbury, Regno Unito

Nel 2016 lo studio Caruso St John progetta per l’organo della Cattedrale di Canterbury un luogo della musica ma ancor prima del silenzio, che nella sintassi musicale assume la forma della pausa. Una sospensione che, se nella musica è predisposizione all’attesa, anticipazione del suono e promessa di un inizio, nel progetto della Cattedrale diventa interruzione fisica, una cesura che si realizza come distacco da terra. Il lavoro sullo spazio di Caruso St John nasce da una meditata ricerca sul contesto con un esercizio costante che non si esaurisce solo nell’analisi storica e architettonica ma che, per evocazione di immagini affini, include nella lettura del luogo tutti i campi dell’arte. In 2016, the Caruso St John studio designed for the organ of Canterbury Cathedral a place of music but even more so of silence, which in musical syntax is expressed by the pause. A suspension which in music is a readiness to wait, the anticipation of sound and the promise of a beginning, and that in the project for the Cathedral becomes a physical interruption, a break that is accomplished as a detachment from the ground. The work on the space carried out by Caruso St John derives from thoughtful research on the context through a constant exercise that is not limited to historical and architectural analysis but, by evocation of related images, includes all fields of art in the interpretation of the place.
