Pedestrian-Cycle Footbridge in Vinaroz, Spain

<p>The footbridge that has recently been built in the town of Vinaroz (Vinaròs in Valencian language), Spain, has a span of 60 m with a deck of just 16 cm thick. This extreme level of slenderness is only one of the many tangible results of the design process described in this article.</p><p>A stress ribbon bridge is a structural typology that is not very common in Spain, despite there are some few interesting, and relatively recent, examples in Valladolid, Cuenca and Terrassa, among others. However, the Vinaroz bridge solution is pioneering in Spain because it makes use of two parallel steel ribbons plates. This technology was applied by Professor Jörg Schlaich in some footbridges in Germany [1] and one recent example in Guangming (China).</p><p>In the following chapters, the most interesting structural aspects of this footbridge in Vinaroz will be presented, as well as data on its construction process and its static and dynamic behavior.</p>
