Recent Situation and Control of Bamboo Diseases in China
View through CrossRef
The bamboo diseases occur in a rather common and acute way in China due to a marked deterioration of ecological environment of bamboo stands which have been caused partially by human production management in a bigger and more intensive way in context of the booming economy in China since the opening-up and reforming policy implemented in 1980’s. The bamboo diseases predominated in China can be placed under 3 categories as per its damaged part stated below: 1. Culm and branch diseases: Moso tip blight (Ceratosphaeria phyllostachydis), Moso basal culm rot (Arthrinium phaeosperimum), Bamboo witches’ broom Aciculosporium take, and Epichloe bambusae), Bamboo culm rust (Stereostratum corticiodes). They are the most damaged bamboo diseases in recent bamboo production in China, especially for the former two ones which are endemic in China. Meanwhile, there are two newly-discovered ones which bring about damages in a regional scale, i.e., Bamboo culm brown rot (Fusarium solani), Bamboo culm purple-speck disease (Fusarium stilboides), besides, Bamboo Smut (Ustilago shiraiana), and Bamboo culm sheath disease (Shiraia bambusicola), 2. Bamboo foliage diseases : Bamboo Leaf Rust (Puccinia spp. and Uredo spp.) Bamboo Black Mildew (Meliola spp., Dimerina sp. and Capnodium sp.), Bamboo Anthracnos (Colletotrichum spp., Bamboo Leaf Spot (Phyllachora spp.), and others. They occur commonly, but not so seriously except for the Bamboo Smut damaging at a regional level, and 3. Bamboo rhizome root diseases: Damping-off and Seedling Rot (Rhizoctonia solani, Fusarium spp. and Sclerotium rolfsii). Their attacks are usual during bamboo seedling period. And further, some control solutions have been also formulated with respect to each above-mentioned bamboo disease.
