The article reveals the place and role of onomastics in the training of a specialist historian. The system of academic disciplines (“Auxiliary historical disciplines”, “Local history and ethnology of Belarus”, “Source study of the history of Belarus”), which allows students to formulate onomastic competencies that can be claimed in their further research and teaching activities, is considered.
