Understanding the Determinants of Immigrants’ Residential Distribution within The City of Bristol
View through CrossRef
This study examines the factors that influence the distribution of immigrant groups within the
City of Bristol, UK. Through quantitative statistical techniques (multiple linear regression and
Global Moran’s I), this paper assesses whether immigrants cluster in the City of Bristol, and
also measures the importance of other immigrant residential patterns, housing, and labour
market conditions on the residential distribution of more recent immigrants (immigrants who
arrived in the City of Bristol between 2011 and 2021). Models are also created using census
data from different immigrant groups (European, Middle East and Asian, and African) to
investigate similarities and differences in immigrants’ residential distribution. The results
suggest that immigrants are more likely to settle in areas of Bristol with; older immigrant
populations, a high number of more recent immigrants, and abundant private rented housing.
