The balance of payments holds a unique and special position in the system of summary indicators characterizing the state of any economy and the intensity and effectiveness of its economic relationships. Through the balance of payments one can gain insight into and evaluate not only a country’s economic potential but also the outcomes of its economic interactions with the global community. This issue becomes especially important for countries with small and open economies that are highly susceptible to global economic trends. Both the assessment of this impact and entering new sectors of the economy, shifts in the directions and volumes of the country's exports and imports have a significant influence on raising the living standards of the given country, both socio-economically and for individual citizens of the country. In this paper we delve into the study and analysis of the balance of payments, discussing its distinct components within the region. We make separate comparisons, both within structural associations and among distinct group of countries.
