Existentialism in Postmodern Urdu Nazm

View through CrossRef
This paper examines the effects of existential thought in postmodern Urdu Nazm. Existentialism provided an intellectual basis for the fundamental problems of modern man, especially loneliness, anguish, fear, alienation, freedom, choice, meaninglessness and identity crisis, which are also deeply echoed in Urdu Nazm. In the postmodern era, political instability, social chaos, consumerism, the increasing effects of technology, the collapse and destruction of values and the weakness of human relationships have further complicated the existential problems of the individual. As a result of this situation, themes such as the meaninglessness of life, internal anxiety, a sense of loneliness, death and destruction, uncertainty and the meaning of existence have become prominent in postmodern Urdu Nazm. This study makes it clear that the postmodern poet treats existential thought not simply as a philosophical theory but as a means of expressing the lived experience of his era and the human condition. At the same time, the poem also highlights the search for individual freedom, self-awareness and the meaning of life. Thus, existentialism in postmodern Urdu Nazm effectively expresses the complex existential experience of contemporary man by clarifying the interrelationship between the individual's internal crisis and external circumstances.
