Using LCMS/ MS, new pomegranate molasses compounds were examined for their effects on anemia brought on by phenylhydrazine
View through CrossRef
Abstract
The ethanolic extract of pomegranate molasses was investigated for its impact on phenylhydrazine (PHZ)-induced anemia in male albino rats using LCMS/MS analysis to determine the phytoconstituents. When PHZ was administered, red cells (RBCs) decreased in count, hematocrit, haemoglobin concentration, and mean cell volume (MCV) were increased. Mean corpuscular haemoglobin (MCH) and concentration, as well as reticulocyte count, leukocyte count, and platelet count were the same results. PHZ also caused hyperbilirubinemia, an increase in erythropoietin, iron, lactate dehydrogenase, and malondialdehyde levels, as well as a decrease in the activity of the antioxidant enzymes and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD). Additionally, PHZ caused the splenic histopathology to deteriorate. The administration of molasses prior to PHZ provided protection against RBCs abnormalities, increased RBCs count, hematocrit, and haemoglobin concentration, and decreased MCH, leukocyte count, platelets count, and reticulocyte count. Additionally, the administration of molasses prior to PHZ decreased the levels of bilirubin, erythropoietin, iron, lactate dehydrogenase, and malondialdehyde and increased the activity of G6PD and antioxidant enzymes. In comparison to administration of PHZ alone, the administration of molasses before PHZ led to a modrest improvement in splenic histopathology. Finally, the pomegranate molasses ethanolic extract exhibits good protection against blood poisoning and anemia caused by PHZ and may be a promising choice for treating anemia-related disorders with a natural origin.
