Trajetos espirais, demonizantes e de exílio

Octavia Butler writes Dawn (1987), the first book of the Lilith’s Brood trilogy (1989), in which she revisits the Lilith myth in a science fiction context through the construction of the character Lilith Iyapo. Like the myth, the character suffers from issues of the body, sexuality, and exile. As an excerpt from my master's thesis, in this article I aim to investigate the latter aspect, observing the paths taken by the character in parallel with the Lilithian myth. To this end, I will allude to the myth of the Great Mother Goddess (BARING; CASHFORD, 1993), to the myth of Lilith (COLONNA, 1980; PATAI, 1990; PIRES, 2008) and to the question of her perpetual status as an outsider with her spiraling, demonic and exile types of transit. I conclude that the revisitation of the myth proposed by Octavia E. Butler questions the deifying and demonizing models of the feminine to build a character in transit.
