View through CrossRef
Supportive and emotionally open friendships contribute significantly to emotional well-being, especially among young women. The present study examined the effect of self- disclosure and friendship quality on emotional intimacy among 200 female adults studying at RLMC and RLKU in Lahore, Pakistan. Convenient sampling was used for data collection. The research focused on three key variables: Self-Disclosure, Friendship Quality, and Emotional Intimacy. Standardized psychological scales like Emotional Self-Disclosure Scale 1988, Friendship Quality Scale and Mcgill Friendship Questionnair-FF were used to assess these Self-Disclosure, Friendship Quality and Emotional Intimacy. Pearson correlation, ANOVA, Independent Sample t-test and regression analyses were conducted to examine relationships and predictive effects. The findings revealed that both self-disclosure and friendship quality were significantly associated with emotional intimacy. Moreover, friendship quality emerged as a stronger predictor of emotional intimacy than self-disclosure. The results suggest that emotionally close and supportive friendships characterized by trust, loyalty, and mutual understanding play a vital role in shaping emotional connection among female adults. T test was used to examine that there is no significant relationship between family system on Self-Disclosure, Friendship Quality and Emotional Intimacy. One way ANOVA was used to examine that age groups did not provide significant relationship but on the basis of education, there is a significant relationship between friendship quality.
